To efficiently produce an Mg base or an Mg alloy base composite material by using SnO2 as a penetrating assistant.
In the case of producing this composite material, firstly, a reinforced aggregate is formed and SnO2 is applied to it as the penetrating assistant material. Then, the SnO2 is reacted with molten Mg or Mg alloy, to initiatively penetrate this molten metal into the reinforced aggregate. In this case, SnO2 is more excellent than SiO2 and TiO2 as the conventional penetrating assistant material in the following point. That is, in the ordinary melting temp. of the Mg or the Mg alloy, the Sn produced with the above thermite reaction can hold the fluidity state in the molten metal. Further, the initiative penetrating phenomenon is displaced with the same as or less quantity than the conventional penetrating assistant material to the reinforced aggregate. It is desirable that the adding quantity of SnO2 is made to 1-90vol% to the reinforced material.
