Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a modified copolymer having excellent adhesiveness, printability, hydrophilic nature, polymer modifying properties, etc., by introducing an epoxy group or OH group to an unsaturated copolymer of an alpha-olefin and a specific cyclic olefin. CONSTITUTION:(A) An unsaturated copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing A1: 2-12C, preferably 3-8C alpha-olefin (preferably 4-methyl-1-pentene) with A2: 0.1-50mol%, preferably 0.1-30mol% alkylidene group or alkenyl group-containing cyclic olefin of the formula (R<1> is 2-3C alkylidene or 2-5C alkenyl group; R<2> is 1-5C hydrocarbon group or H; (n) is 0, 1 or 2) by using a catalyst comprising a specific transition metal compound and alumoxane. (B) The unsaturated copolymer obtained by the process A is oxidized with a peracid, the double bond of the alkylidene group or alkenyl group in the unsaturated copolymer is oxidized and epoxy group and/or OH group is introduced to >=30%, preferably >=35% of the double bond to give a modified copolymer.
