To profitably and simply obtain the subject compound free from turbidness and good in hue and smell by treating an N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfate ester salt aqueous solution with an adsorbent.
This method for producing an N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfate ester salt comprises sulfating an N-alkylamidoalkanol of formula I [R1 is a 6-22C linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl, etc.; R2 is H, a 1-22C linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl, etc.; R3 is a 1-5C linear or branched alkylene; R4 is a 2-3C linear or branched alkylene; (n) is 0-50 which exhibits the average addition mole number of an alkylene oxide] with a sulfating agent, neutralizing the obtained N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfate ester and subsequently treating the obtained ester salt aqueous solution of formula II (M is a cation) with an adsorbent preferably in an amount of 0.1-10wt.% based on the ester salt.
