Abstract:

To obtain the subject compound having good smell and excellent storage stability and useful as a detergent base by adjusting the pH of an aqueous solution of an N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfuric acid ester salt within a prescribed range.

An aqueous solution of an N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfuric acid ester salt of formula II (M is a cation) having a pH of 5-8 is produced by sulfating an N-alkylamidoalkanol of formula I (R1 is a 6-22C straight or branched- chain alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, etc.; R2 is H, a 1-22C straight or branched- chain alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; R3 is a 1-5C straight or branched-chain alkylene; R4 is a 2-3C straight or branched-chain alkylene; (n) is an average addition molar number of alkylene oxide and is 0-50) with a sulfating agent and neutralizing the produced N-alkylamidoalkanol sulfuric acid ester with a basic substance in the state of an aqueous solution.
