PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound by easy temperature control in high yield without causing side reactions while preventing a large amount of formation of carbide, by using benzonitrile as a solvent, and reacting tetrachlorophthalic anhydride with a fluorinating agent at high temperature under spontaneously occurring pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Tetrachlorophthalic anhydride is reacted with a fluorinating agent by the use of benzonitrile as a solvent at 270W400°C, especially at 300W 350°C under spontaneously occurring pressure, to give the aimed compound. Potassium fluoride, which is easily handleable, practically commercially obtainable easily, is especially preferable as the fluorinating agent. An amount of the chlorinating agent used is necessarily at least an equivalent amount based on chlorin atom replaced with fluorine atom in tetrachlorophthalic anhydride of raw material, and, when potassium fluoride is used, the amount of the fluorinating agent is preferably 4W8mol based on 1mol raw material. About 5W50pts.wt. raw material is used based on 100pts.wt. solvent.
