PURPOSE: To obtain an olefinic carboxylic acid compound using raw materials having low toxicity in high yield in such a state that by-products are hardly formed and purification is facilitated by reacting a specific cyclopropane derivative with a hypervalent iodine compound.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R1 is OH, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an alkylsilioxy, etc.; R2 and R3 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl, carboxy, etc.; R4 and R5 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl, an amino, etc.; X is a halogen, an alkyl(silyl), an aryl(silyl), an amino, etc.] is reacted with a hyprvalent iodine compound such as iodobenzenediacetate, e.g. at -50 to 50°C properly using acetic acid or methanol as a reacting solvent to provide the objective compound of formula II (R6 is H, an alkyl or an aryl).
