Abstract:

PURPOSE:To obtain a cyclodiene polymer excellent in moldability and heat resistance in high yields by polymerizing a cyclodiene in the presence of a catalyst based on a specified transition metal compound component and an aluminoxane component. CONSTITUTION:The purpose polymer is obtained by polymerizing a cyclodiene in the presence of a catalyst based on a transition metal compound component containing a transition metal of groups IV-VIII of the periodic table and an aluminoxane component. It is desirable that a norbornadiene of formula I (wherein R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5> and R<6> are each H, lower alkyl or halogen) is used as the cyclodiene. When a norbornadiene is used as the cyclodiene, the produced polymer is one comprising repeating units [III] or formula II and repeating units [III] of formula III and having a molar ratio of the repeating units [II] to the repeating units [III] of (0:100)-(100:0), desirably (70-100):(30-0).
