PURPOSE: To obtain the titled metal salt with hardly any moisture content, by subjecting phthalic acid and an alkaline metal hydroxide as raw materials to neutralizing reaction so as to provide the concentration of the resultant alkaline metal salt of the phthalic acid within a specific range, forming a slurry and spray-drying the obtained slurry.
CONSTITUTION: Powdery phthalic acid having preferably ≤1mm particle diameter and an aqueous solution of an alkaline metal hydroxide, such as KOH, are subjected to neutralizing reaction in an aqueous solvent so that the concentration of the formed alkaline metal salt of the phthalic acid may be higher than the solubility thereof in water and within the range of 30W70wt.% to form a slurry, which is then spray-dried by spraying on a high-speed rotating disk and thermally dehydrating, etc., to afford the aimed compound, useful as a raw material for producing diallyl phthalate and having 20W30μm average particle diameter. Furthermore, since the dehydration drying can be carried out in the high-concentration slurry state, this method has extremely high economic effects.
