Title:
PRODUCTION OF PREFORM FOR FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3104420
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a preform for a fiber-reinforced composite material having an uniform fiber arrangement by making inorganic particles and organic particles adhere to reinforcing fibers comprising inorganic fibers and subsequently molding the treated reinforcing fibers.
CONSTITUTION: Inorganic fibers, e.g. the heat-resistant fibers of Al2O3 or Al2O3- SiO2, are immersed in a suspension containing inorganic particles (e.g. potassium titanate whisker) or organic particle (e.g. polymethyl methacrylate particles), molded and subsequently thermally treated for the decomposition and evaporation of the organic particles to produce the preform in which the fibers are bridged with the inorganic particles. A composite material produced from the preform has an excellent strength.
