Title:
PRODUCTION OF SILVER-DISPERSED CARBON MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3148892
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial carbon material which can cause silver ion to be dissolved out at a certain concn., lower than the regulatory standard, for a long term and which is excellent in moldability by mixing an org. raw material for pitch production with silver acetate and subjecting the mixture to polycondensation to thereby homogeneously disperse metallic silver.
SOLUTION: In addition to liq. substances such as coal-derived ones, petroleum-derived heavy oils, and molten polymers, solid substances such as wood chips and coconut husks are listed as the org. raw material. Silver acetate in the form of a powder may be directly mixed into the raw material, or a soln. of silver acetate in quinoline alone or in a quinoline/acetic acid mixture may be mixed into the raw material. The use of a quinoline/acetic acid mixture can facilitate the dissolution of silver acetate. The amt. of silver acetate added is generally satisfactory if the concn. of silver in the carbon material is about 0.01-10 wt.%. The resultant silver-dispersed pitch is made nonfusible, carbonized, and activated to give an active carbon material.
