Abstract:
PURPOSE: To simply obtain a high-molecular weight sulfonated polyarylene sulfide compound excellent in thermal stability by sulfonating and polymerizing a specific aromatic sulfoxide compound, providing a sulfonated polyarylenesulfonium compound and then sulfiding the resultant compound.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a sulfonated polyarylene sulfide compound expressed by formula III [Ar is phenyl, diphenyl sulfide group or diphenyl ether group; X is H or an alkali metal; (m) is the average number of mol of added sulfo groups and 0.1≤(m)≤4: (n) is the degree of polymerization and 10-10000] is to sulfonate and polymerize (A) a compound expressed by formula I (R is an alkyl or an aryl), e.g. methyl (4-phenylthiophenyl) sulfoxide in the presence of (B) a strong acid such as sulfuric acid, provide (C) a sulfonated polyarylenesulfonium compound expressed by formula II and then eliminate the substituent group (R).
