Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the compensation plate which decreases the viewing angle dependency possessed by a liquid crystal display.
CONSTITUTION: Optically active polyester contg. an arom. unit, polycylic hydrocarbon ring unit and ortho-substd. arom. unit having at least 3 to 8C hydrocarbon group and/or halogen as a substituent as a constituting component, or a compsn. contg. liquid crystalline polyester contg. the hydrocarbon unit as a constituting component and the optically active compd. is treated at a temp. above the glass transition point of the polyester on the oriented film formed on a light transparent substrate and is then cooled to the temp. below the glass transition point of the polyester and a cholesteric structure is immobilized, by which the visual angle compensation plate for the liquid crystal display element is obtd. The uniform viewing angle compensation plate which drastically decreases the viewing angle dependency is provided at a low cost in this way.
