A projection auxiliary device comprises: an input unit 11 inputting a picture signal; a projection system 13-18 projecting an image corresponding to the picture signal from the input unit 11 using light emitted from a light source unit 16; an antenna 26 and a pointer communications unit 24 receiving information about reduction of luminance from external devices existing in a range within which the projection system 13-18 projects the image; and a CPU 19 determining whether or not the received information instructs reduction of the luminance of the image to be projected by the projection system 13-18 and reducing the luminance of the image to be projected by the projection system 13-18 on the basis of the determination result.
