To provide a protection device for surge, which has fast response speed and can be automatically and repeatedly used, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.
In a method for forming a high resistance coat by oxidizing the surfaces of metal rods, first oxidation for bringing a plurality of metal rods into contact with one another to be integrated is performed first, and second oxidation for forming the high resistance coat on the whole of the plurality of metal rods is performed next. Although conditions of the first oxidation and the second oxidation are usually different, they may be the same. By this process, the plurality of metal rods are integrally connected via the high resistance coat, and structure having the high resistance coat is formed on the whole of the metal rods. Electrodes are connected to both ends of the whole of the metal rods by solder or a conductive adhesive material to be made into main components of the protection device for surge. When the number of metal rods to be easily assembled, that is, two to four thereof are electrically connected in series via a conductive material, an arrester having larger electric resistance and operation voltage is manufactured to cope with usage in wider range. It is desirable that the metal is molybdenum.
