Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely remove only impurities at high selectivity to purify an ester compound by bring a crude ester compound to contact with a metal salt of an alcohol.
SOLUTION: An ester compound obtained by reacting an alcohol with an acid in the presence of a sulfuric acid or sulfonic acid-based catalyst is brought to contact with a metal salt of an alcohol of the formula, MOR (M is an alkali metal; R is a 1-8C alkyl) to purify the ester compound. This process enables the decomposition and removal of only impurities such as sulfuric acid ester or sulfonic acid ester at high selectivity without accompanying unfavorable side reactions of transesterification, etc. This method can carry out the decompositions of impurities and a neutralization treatment in one process and dispenses with large scale apparatuses and complicated processes. The obtained mixture can be purified by such a simple process as washing with water.
