PURPOSE: To purify a high melting point compound, continuously and economically, by extracting the bottom product containing nonvolatile impurities produced in the rectifying column, easily, continuously, stably, without affecting the pressure balance of the rectification system, using a barometric system.
CONSTITUTION: An organic compound having a high melting point and a high boiling point, e.g. anthraquinone, is introduced into a vacuum rectification system, continuously with a gear pump or a screw pump maintained at a temperature higher than the melting point of the compound. The organic compound may be molten with a preheater, etc. before introduction. The purified vapor of the compound is distilled out and recovered from the top of the column. The bottom product discharged from the evaporater at the bottom of the column and containing impurities which are nonvolatile or have higher boiling point than the objective compound, is extracted from the rectification system continuously by the use of a barometric leg consisting of a vertical modified U-tube connected to the bottom product outlet of the evaporator. The organic compound having a high melting point and a high boiling point can be purified by this process. The process is especially suitable for the purification of a compound having a melting point of 200W300°C.
