Abstract:

PURPOSE: To decrease the bit error rate of an output signal of a digital signal processing section by providing an expansion section to a digital signal processing section to compensate a nonlinear dynamic compression of an analog reception section.
CONSTITUTION: A communication signal (e), subject to phase of frequency modulation, is fed to an analog reception section 10. A signal converted into an intermediate frequency signal by an intermediate frequency mixer 21 is given to an intermediate frequency amplifier 22, where the signal is subjected to nonlinear dynamic compression. Then the signal is converted into two orthogonal signals I, Q by a base-band converter 23. The signals I, Q are sampled by a sampling and holding element 24 and fed to a digital signal processing section 30 via an A/D converter 25. Digitized orthogonal components Id, Qd, are expanded by an expansion section 29 to equalize distortion caused by dynamic compression. The expansion section 29 conducts expansion according to inverse function pairs calculated by an inverse function represented by a characteristic curve of the intermediate frequency amplifier 22.
