Title:
RARE EARTH MAGNET ALLOY AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3242818
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare earth magnet alloy, particularly the alloy, as grain boundary phase alloy, excellent in crusha-bility and minimal in segregation.
SOLUTION: The alloy is an alloy, having a composition consisting of, by weight, 35-60% of at least one rare earth element (R) selected from Nb, Dy, and Pr, ≤1% B, and the balance Fe, or an alloy having a composition in which at least one element selected from Co, Cu, Al, and Ga is incorporated into the above composition. Further this alloy is a rare earth magnet alloy in which the volume ratio of the total of R2T17 phase (where T is Fe or a part of Fe is substituted by at least one element among Co, Cu, Al, and Ga) and R2T14B phase (where T is the same as as in the alloy is regulated to ≤25% and also the average phase size is regulated to ≥20μm. This alloy is produced by, at the time of supplying a molten alloy of the composition to a rotating cylindrical mold 4a to perform centrifugal casting, carrying out the casting while regulating the average deposition rate of the molten alloy onto the inner wall surface of the mold to ≤0.1cm/sec.
