Abstract:

To provide a reader capable of securely preventing paper feeding errors and double feeding, irrespective of quality of original documents.

The reader is equipped with a contact load controlling means that temporarily weakens a contact load of an original document feeding roller 1 on an original document surface of an original document P loaded uppermost or temporarily separates the roller 1 from the original document surface, when the tip portion of the document P fed by the roller 1 reaches an original document separating means 2, and that temporarily strengthens the contact load of the roller 1 on the document surface of the document P loaded uppermost, when the tip portion of the document P does not reach the separating means 2. The press force of the roller 1 varies with the feeding state of the document P.
