PURPOSE: To obtain a reading apparatus which allows a user to read a newspaper from right to left end without moving his neck or head horizontally being kept lying on a bed while the paper is kept from sagging downward in turning over the page thereof.

CONSTITUTION: A horizontally reciprocal slider box 2 is set on a base plate 1. A reciprocally turning shaft 3 is arranged horizontally in the machine box 2 and the shaft 3 is provided with a lift rotary arm 4 protruding ahead of the machine box 2. A reciprocally turning device 5 of a rotary shaft 3 and a slider 6 of the machine box 2 are formed, a written surface holder 7 is supported with the lift rotary arm 4 and the front of the holder 7 is supported being inclined backward in the upper limit of the lift turning of the arm 4.
