To reduce the number of parts, and reduce the number of assembling man-hours and management man-hours in lowering the position of a groove for mounting a rebound sheet toward a piston for reducing stresses generated in the groove for mounting the rebound sheet formed in a piston rod.
In a hydraulic damper, a circumferential groove is formed in the piston rod 15, and the rebound sheet 22 is mounted on the groove, so that a rebound rubber 23 is compressed between the rebound sheet 22 and a rod guide 13 at the time of the longest extension to absorb shock. The groove for mounting the rebound sheet 22 is formed to be closer to the piston 16 till a moment applied to the groove is less than a prescribed value without changing the distance between a load action point from the rod guide 13 to the piston rod 15 and a load action point from a cylinder 12 to the piston 16 when extended to the longest. The rebound sheet 22 is formed longer by the closer part of the groove toward the piston 16.
