Abstract:
To suppress generation of nitrogen oxide and improve thermal efficiency by distribution of water supplied to the inside of a combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A reciprocating internal combustion engine 10 comprises a fuel injection nozzle 18 that is disposed at the center of the top of a cylinder 12 for radially injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 16, and a water supply device 22 having a water injection nozzle 20 for injecting water into the combustion chamber 16. The water supply device 22 injects water from the water injection nozzle 20, and before the fuel injection nozzle 18 performs a main injection, stratificationally forms a flat column-shaped water-containing region 26 including water droplets and water vapor at a central part of the combustion chamber 16. A jet flow of fuel, when passing through the water-containing region 26, takes in surrounding gas and water that are cooled by evaporation heat, thereby lowering combustion temperature.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
