This recoil starter device is applied to the shouldering type working machine having a shouldering stand 10 and an engine unit mounted on the shouldering stand. The device is constituted so that a rope pulling-out part 43 of a recoil starter 41 is arranged in the engine unit 11 by opening upward; a fitting part 46 fitted to the rope pulling-out part 43 is arranged in a base end part of a knob holding rod 44 installed on a recoil rope; a starting knob 45 operated when a worker pulls out the recoil rope, is arranged in a tip part of the knob holding rod 44; and the starting knob 45 is set in a desired position by fitting the fitting part 46 to the rope pulling-out part 43 when the worker releases the hand from the starting knob 45.
