To retrieve a program congenial to a viewer from programs scheduled to be broadcast appropriately, using a watching history information on programs watched by viewers in the past while suppressing the amount of memory used.
A device for retrieving a recommended program 9 comprises: a tuner 2; a memory 8; a watching history information obtaining part 71 which obtains channels and time watched by a viewer for each area in a predetermined length of time, and stores in the memory 8 the watching history information in which the watched channels and time matched with each area; a program information obtaining part 3 which obtains information on programs scheduled to be broadcast including program time information and channel information on the programs scheduled to be broadcast; and a retrieval part 72 which retrieves a program congenial to the viewer from programs scheduled to be broadcast, based on the result of comparison between the program time information and the channel information contained in the information on programs scheduled to be broadcast and the watched channels and time stored in the memory 8.
