A recording apparatus is provided with a first conveyance amount measuring means 1006 for obtaining the conveyance amount of the recording medium 1007 by measuring the rotation amount of the conveyance roller 1001 that conveys the recording medium 1007 and a second conveyance amount measuring means 701 for obtaining the conveyance amount of the recording medium 1007 by directly detecting the movement amount of the recording medium 1007 and controls the conveyance of the recording medium 1007 by using in combination of each of the output values obtained from the first conveyance amount measuring means 1006 and the second conveyance amount measuring means 701. Thereby the output value that can be obtained from the first conveyance amount measuring means 1006 can be corrected based on the output value obtainable from the second conveyance amount measuring means 701, and the output value for use in the conveyance control can be switched between both of them, as needed.
