PURPOSE: To provide the class of coding capable of selecting an optimum coding system depending on a desired use.
CONSTITUTION: This recording carrier carries the signals of a group of code word strings. Respective cord words are composed of the M pieces sub groups Gm provided with the I pieces of the position signals tmi of a time length sτ0 and an equal interval τ. The initial position tm1 of the sub group Gm is defined as 0≤m≤τ and positioning is performed with mutually different time intervals m from the head of the code word. Also, the conditions of M22 and m+(I-1)τ≤sτ0 are applied, the case of M=2, I=s=2, k=1, τ=τ0 and 2=1+1/2τ is excluded for the group of the code words and the (k) pieces among the I pieces of the signal positions tmi of the Gm are made distinguishable from the signal values of the other signal positions. By the constitution, the random power spectrum of the code word is provided with small power, the servo signals of a low frequency are added, the continuous part of the power spectrum is provided with one zero point, clocks are added and an optimum code is selected especially relating to information density per information bit and the number of recording marks.
