Abstract:

PURPOSE: To detect the start of a sector by providing one of plural segments with an area where pits are not preliminarily formed and forming a pit indicating the start of the sector correspondingly to the start position of the sector.

CONSTITUTION: Embossed pits exist in periods indicated by hatching, and embossed pits do not exist in the segment of a header H2. A sector mark pit indicating the start of a sector is arranged as an embossed pit in a servo byte 4A in the start of a header 1. In such a case, a clock is regenerated without inserting a pattern which does not exist in a modulating system. Thus, the start of the sector can be accessed.
