PURPOSE: To recover ruthenium while decreasing the influence of coexisting ions and lowering the equilibrium adsorption concentration, by contacting a ruthenium-containing solution with a chelate resin having functional group having a specific structure.

CONSTITUTION: Ru can be recovered by contacting a Ru-containing solution with a chelate resin having a functional group of (A) formula -C(O)R1 (R1 is amino group or its derivative, especially polyalkylenepolyamine), (B) formula -SH, especially -NH[(CH2)m-NH]n-C(S)SH and (C) formula -N(R2)-CH2-[CH(OH)]n- CH2OH or -N(R2)C(CH2OH)3 (R2 is H or 1W5C alkyl; n is integer of 1W6), e.g. a resin produced by reacting a crosslinked acrylonitrile-divinylbenzene copolymer with diethylenetriamine.
