To provide a suitable method for easily and economically obtaining various organic methanide electrolyte having high purity to be used for a battery electrolyte, by manufacturing specific methanide having high purity and suitable for the electrolyte by refining it.
This methanide suitable for an electrolyte is expressed by the formula (x is one of integers from 1 through 8, M is H, Li, Na, KRb, Cs, Mg1/2, Ca1/2, Sr1/2 or Ba1/2). Its manufacturing method has a stage 1 to fractionally rectify free acid obtained by reacting the methanide expressed by the formula with concentrated sulfuric acid, a stage 2 to fractionally rectify the product expressed in the formula with H instead of M and obtained in the stage 1 by reacting it with phosphorous pentaoxide at a temperature of not less than its fusing point. The product from the stage 2 is taken into non-protic organic solvent, and is reacted with a metal such as Li and the like, their chlorides or hydrides, or if M is Li, it is reacted with alkyl-lithium, and a metal methanide corresponding to the formula is formed.
