Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmissive liquid crystal display device or a translucent liquid crystal display device with low wavelength dispersion and with high luminance.
SOLUTION: By setting a cell gap of a liquid crystal layer and a set voltage so as to make reflectance of the liquid crystal layer for the blue wavelength have a maximum value, reflectance values of the liquid crystal layer for the red, blue and green wavelengths nearly coincide with one another under a voltage lower than the set voltage for the maximum value. Thereby color dispersion is suppressed and a display without color variation is realized by carrying out a display operation within a range in which the reflectance values of the liquid crystal layer are nearly matched with one another.
