To provide a refrigerator having an opening and closing door and capable of illuminating an object stored on a shelf for putting object to be stored on it of the opening and closing door even if illumination in a storage chamber does not reach the stored object.
This refrigerator is provided with an illumination panel 20 composed of a cover, LEDs, a substrate provided with a plurality of LEDs on it and being vertically long, and a plate fixing the substrate. The illumination panel 20 is formed over the vertical direction on a side face between the shelves 19 for putting an object to be stored on it in an inner frame 18 of the opening and closing door 16 attached to a refrigerator compartment 12a and is arranged in thermal insulating materials 11a to be flush with the inner frame 18 so that the objects stored on the shelves 19 are directly illuminated. Even if illuminance around the refrigerator 8 is insufficient and light from a lighting system arranged in the refrigerator compartment 12a does not reach the stored objects sufficiently, the objects stored on the shelves 19 can be effectively illuminated in this refrigerator.
