PURPOSE: To enable color register to be performed highly precisely even for expansion and contraction of printing paper by a method wherein a coordinate value of a plate cylinder rotary direction and a coordinate value of a plate cylinder rotary axial direction at a specific point of each register mark are calculated from a prepared level data, and a register control signal is generated based on the data.
CONSTITUTION: In order to input cross register marks 64c, 64d at two positions normal to a flow direction of a web 10 two pairs of color cameras and strobes do well and further three pairs of color cameras and strobes may be preferably used simultaneously at camera positions. A reflecting type beam sensor 52 is installed just before the color camera 50 in a progressive direction of the web, and reads a start mark 62 provided at a printing start position of a pattern 60 to be continuously printed on the web 10. An image signal from the color camera 50 and a start pulse from the reflecting type beam sensor 52 are inputted to a register control circuit 44. Register deviation amounts among respective colors of each register mark are calculated with the register control circuit, and a plate cylinder phase conforming motor of each printing unit is driven by a required content according to the calculated register deviation amount to complete registration. Control may be performed correspondingly to all the continuous printed matter, and control one time per several sheets may be performed also.
