Abstract:
PURPOSE: To accurately determine the location and the orientation of the tube tip of a catheter by providing a connecting means between a first annular part on the inside in the radial direction which is oriented in the longitudinal direction to partition a far-end zone of an optical fiber tube hole, and a second annular part which is located on the outside in the radial direction. CONSTITUTION: A through cavity balloon catheter 16 has a manifold 18 and a catheter tube 20 made of a flexible polyethylene, which is connected to the manifold 18 and is reinforced with a distortion-removing member 22, and a flat far-located annular surface part 56 of a catheter balloon 24 is connected with first and second annular parts 50, 54. Also, a tapered part 58 which is gradually made narrower toward the tip, is converged and connected in the proximal direction to a neck part 59 which is seal-connected to the external surface of the catheter tube 20 from the second annular part 54. The annular surface part 56 and the tapered part 58 cooperate so as to provide a connecting means which concentrically positions the first and second annular parts 50, 54 when the catheter balloon 24 is expanded. By this method, the possibility that the curving property of a blood vessel to be treated disadvantageously affects the center positioning performance, can be minimized.
