Title:
REMOLTEN AND CHILLED METAL CAM SHAFT AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60234167
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance the wear-resistance capability of a slide cam surface on a remolten and chilled cast iron cam shaft, by forming, over the entire periphery of the cam slide surface, a chill hardened layer which is formed by application of high density energy irradiation onto the remolten and chilled metal cam shaft. CONSTITUTION:A chill hardened layer 4 is formed, having a cementite, as a main phase, which is remolten by application of high density energy irradiation such as, for example, TIG arc, and the chill hardened layer 4 is formed over the entire periphery of a cam slide surface on a cast iron cam shaft having a direct cast structure 5 which is subjected to no chill hardening. With this arrangement, the sliding characteristics such as, for example, the wear-resistance capability and anti-scuffing ability may be improved.
