To limit the number of characters by fitting them to the quantity of character information being recorded on a disk and the capacity of a memory when the character information being previously recorded on the disk are read in the memory.

One pack of character information which are reproduced from a read-in area of a disk and which are decoded is stored in a buffer 91 of a memory part 76. The number of packs Ptt and the number of tracks Ptr in which text information are recorded are known from the information of a size pack. The maximum number of storage packs Pmax is calculated from a mounted memory capacity Cme and the number of characters of one pack. When Ptt>Pmax, the limiting processing of number of characters is performed, and the number of limiting characters is calculated by (Lji=Cme÷(Ntr+2)). A read-in processing is performed untill the number of characters reaches the number of limited characters is CD-TEXT information. When the number of the characters reaches the number of limited characters, the reading in of data is completed by adding a code expressing a punctuation.
