PURPOSE: To obtain a resing composition essentially comprising an aqueous resin fine particle dispersion prepared by a specified method and a cross-linking agent, excellent in luster of a coating film, adhesivity, water resistance, etc., having improved balance of these performances and high utility.
CONSTITUTION: This resin composition for water base paint is obtained by blending (A) an aqueous resin fine particle dispersion which is made into fine particles by adding (ii) a basic compound (e.g. NaOH or diethylamine) and (iii) an organic solvent (e.g. an alcohol) to (i) a polymer emulsion prepared by subjecting a monomer mixture essentially composed of a hydroxyl group- containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer [e.g. 2-hydroxyethyl (meth) acrylate] and an acid group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid], to emulsion polymerization in the presence of a chain transfer agent (e.g. ethanethiol) with (B) a cross-linking agent (e.g. an amino resin) as essential components. The dispersion A is preferably aged at 70-100°C during or after addition of the components (ii) and (iii). The average particle diameter of the aqueous resin fine particles in the component A is preferably 0.01-1 micron.
