Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new reverse transcriptase inhibitor and an antiviral agent containing low-molecular weight active and low toxic ingredient(s) having distinct structure.
CONSTITUTION: This reverse transcriptase inhibitor or an antiviral agent contains, as active ingredient(s), a sulfated tyrosine of the formula (Z1 and Z2 are such that one of them is SO3H, the other being SO3H or H) and/or a physiologically permissible salt thereof. The compound of the formula is pref. the one where Z1 and Z2 are each SO3H, and the salt is e.g. Na, K, Ca, Mg, Ba or tetrabutylammonium salt. The compound of the formula is obtained by enzymatically or chemically treating tyrosine (e.g. decomposition of a sulfated tyrosine-contg. protein, sulfuric esterification of tyrosine). Since the molecular weight of this compound, is lower than those of conventional sulfonated polyamino acids, its antigenicity and shacks in injection thereof can be avoided.
