To provide a road surface roughness measuring method and device for accurately measuring surface roughness with respect to a road surface having unevenness of 0.01 to 1 mm in wavelengths and of about 10 mm in heights.
A contact needle 6 having a semispherical tip 6a is vertically moved from a reference position A onto a road surface S, so that, after a vertical moved distance Di-1 from the reference position A is measured at an (i-1)th measuring point, the contact needle 6 is returned to the reference position A and horizontally moved therefrom by a horizontal moved distance ΔL, and a vertical moved distance Di therefrom to the road surface S is re-measured at an (i)th measuring point. On the basis of the vertical and horizontal moved distances Di-1, Di, and ΔL of the contact needle 6, and a curvature radius R of its tip 6a, a distance Mi from the reference position A to the road surface S in the (i)th measuring point is computed. The distance Mi is an indication for road surface roughness.
