Abstract:

To provide a rolling element for a toroidal type continuously variable transmission and a working method therefor, in which a machining cost can be reduced and a residual compressive stress layer of which the internal depth is deep is added, and of which the rolling fatigue-bearing life can be prolonged.

A disc or a power roller as a rolling element for a toroidal type continuously variable transmission has a rolling face, of which the surface is worked by cutting work and super finishing work, of which the roughness is 0.05 μmRa or less, of which the maximum residual compressive stress is -1000 MPa or less, and in which the residual compressive stress layer is formed from the surface to the internal depth of 0.1 mm. Further, the rolling element has a rolling face, of which the surface is worked by cutting work and burnishing work, of which the roughness is 0.1 μmRa or less, of which the maximum residual compressive stress is -1000 MPa or less, and in which the residual compressive stress layer is formed from the surface to the internal depth of 0.3 mm.
