PURPOSE: To make rolling in high rolling reduction possible without causing irregular shapes of rolling sheet due to rolling load, by supporting a back-up roll of rolling mill thoroughly along its axis by pressurized oil in oil pockets without supporting by bearings.
CONSTITUTION: A work roll 20 of rolling mill is supported by a back-up roll 22 through an intermediate roll 21, and the roll 22 is supported by a pressurized oil in statically pressurized pockets 23 provided to the inside of a supporting part 24, with a wide press. receiving area part spreading in the direction of the roll axis thoroughly. Further, the pockets 23 are communicated to a center hole 26 for oiling through throttling parts 28 provided to communicating holes 27. The load of the back-up roll in rolling is supported by the pressurized oil in the statically pressurized oil pockets 23 spreading axially in a wide range, therefore, even in ≥1,000 tons/m high rolling reduction, the rolling is performed without causing the lowering of lateral rigidity of the roll and irregular shapes of material to be rolled.
