PURPOSE: To prevent the disturbance of a tracking servo and to contrive to improve a reproduction error rate of a digital signal by providing a magnetic field generating means generating a magnetic field exerted onto a recording medium under noncontacting state at the signal recording at the supply side of the recording medium to a rotary head.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic head 15 having a magnetic gap is provided as a magnetic field generating means exerting a magnetic field to a tape 12 at recording. The magnetic head 15 receives a current from a current source 17 via a switch 16 turned on by a recording/reproducing signal being at H at the recording and generates a magnetic field. The magnetic field generated by the magnetic head 15 has only to have a level decreasing the level of the recording given already onto tape 12 up the proper level. Since the recording is attenuated before over-write, all the problems due to the preceding recording left unerased are dissolved and the error rate of a PCM data is also improved.
