To suppress torque reduction due to magnetic substance side cover, and to provide a dynamo-electric machine preventing magnet scattering at a low cost.SOLUTION: A dynamo-electric machine 100 includes a stator 1 having a stator core 2 around which a coil is wound, a rotor 3 arranged rotatably via a cavity 12 for the stator 1, and a side cover 13 which is placed on the end face of the rotor 3 in the axial direction and is formed of a magnetic substance. The rotor 3 comprises a rotor core 4 having multiple magnet housing parts 9 formed in the hoop direction, and multiple permanent magnets 5 housed in the multiple magnet housing parts 9, respectively. The side cover 13 has a contact part 14 in contact with the rotor core 4, and a noncontact part 15 which is not contact with the rotor core 4. The contact part 14 comes into contact with the rotor core 4 in both d-axis region 22 overlapping the d-axis, and a q-axis region 23 overlapping the q-axis. Area of the contact surface of the contact part 14 is larger in the d-axis region 22 than in the q-axis region 23.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
