Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation transmission device which is reduced in a drag loss at the non-application of a magnetic field without lowering transmission torque.SOLUTION: A radial space 27 between a housing 11 and a rotor 12 includes an accommodation space 28. A radial width S1 of the accommodation space 28 is thicker than an axial width S2 of an axial clearance 26 between the housing 11 and the rotor 12. The accommodation space 28 accommodates magnetic particles which are separated from the axial clearance 26 at the non-energization of a coil 14. By this constitution, a concentration of the magnetic particles included in a magnetic viscous fluid 15 of the axial clearance 26 is lowered at the non-energization of the coil 14. Since a drag loss is proportional to the concentration, when the concentration is lowered, the drag loss is reduced. On the other hand, when a magnetic field is applied to the axial clearance 26 at the energization of the coil 14, the magnetic particles in the accommodation space 28 are sucked into the axial clearance 26, the concentration of the magnetic particles of the axial clearance 26 is raised, and torque is sufficiently transmitted between the rotor 12 and the housing 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
