PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an umbrella which can be opened/closed safely and easily.
SOLUTION: A protection barrel 10 with a pull-down string 21 is engaged with the outside of a runner 1. An upper spring 7 and a bottom spring are both chevron-shaped plates, projecting in the vertical direction relative to the axial direction of a shaft 6, and a side on the ferrule side and a side on the handle side of each spring form an acute angle with respect to the axial direction of the shaft. However, angle θ2 of the side on the handle side is formed smaller than angle θ1 of the side on the ferrule side in the upper spring, and the angle of the side on the ferrule side is formed smaller than the angle of the side on the handle side in the bottom spring. When the umbrella in the opened state is closed, the bottom spring 1 is slid in the direction of the hand, by pulling the pull-down string 21 in the handle direction of the shaft; and when the umbrella in the closed state is opened, the bottom spring is slid in the direction of the ferrule, by pressing the protection barrel in the direction of the ferrule of the shaft.
