PURPOSE: To securely prevent a Newton ring from being generated and form an excellent electronic image with simple constitution for the scanning device which generates an electronic display image by scanning a transparent body, whereby an original image is formed and the method for forming the transparent base for the scanning device.

CONSTITUTION: The scanning device is equipped with the transparent base and a scanning means which generates an electronic display image of the original image, formed by the transparent body by scanning the transparent body on the transparent base, and so constituted that the surface 24 of the transparent base, supporting the transparent body to be used, has cross section having irregular undulations, which are so formed that a Newton ring generated between the transparent body and the surface 24 of the transparent body base is formed to the extent that it cannot be discriminated with the resolution of the scanning means.
