To provide a scarfing apparatus of a steel billet 5 which facilitates the removal of a fillet 7 generated in the case of scarfing the steel billet 5, has low equipment cost and small maintenance load.
The scarfing device has a top surface side torch unit 1 disposed in a top side transverse direction of the steel billet 5, and a lateral side torch unit 3 disposed in at least one lateral side of the steel billet. While the gaseous oxygen or/and gas for combustion are jetted from the top surface side torch unit 1 and the lateral side torch unit 3, the surface of the steel billet is subjected to the scarfing by moving the torches or the steel billet 5. The discharge direction of the gas jetted from the lateral side torch unit 3 inclines to the top side with respect to the longitudinal direction of the steel billet 5. As a result, the gaseous flow 12 is jetted diagonally upward from the lateral side from the lateral side torch unit 3, and since the slag 6 run out to the lateral side by the jetted flow is blown off, the fillet 7 does not remain on the downstream side of the steel billet 5.
