To provide a device and a method for expanding a metallic circular cylinder by which the tube expansion limit is widened by obtaining uniform extension in each part in the circumferential direction of the metallic circular cylinder, the cross-sectional shape of the metallic circular cylinder after expansion is formed into a target circular shape and the inner surface of the metallic circular cylinder is prevented from generating abrasions, in the expansion of the metallic circular cylinder in order to form the metallic circular cylinder into a conical shape by expansion.
In the device and method for expanding the metallic circular cylinder, an expanding tool 1 for expanding the metallic circular cylinder 10 has a center cone 2 and a planetary roll group 5 which is arranged on the outer periphery of the center cone. The center cone 2 has a conical shape the outside diameter of which is changed in the axial direction and arranged so that the outer peripheries of planetary rolls 4 are brought into contact with the outer periphery of the center cone 2. While bringing the inner periphery of the metallic circular cylinder 10 into contact with the outer peripheries of the planetary rolls 4 and making the difference of rotating speed between the metallic circular cylinder 10 and the center cone 2, the center cone 2 is moved in the axial direction to the metallic circular cylinder 10.
