To provide a scintillator substance useful for a radiation detector in general and a radiation detector produced by using the scintillator substance and effective for decreasing the exposure damage with a high-energy radiation.
The sintered and annealed sintillator composition has a composition of formula A3B2C3O12 before annealing. In the formula, A is at least one element selected from Tb, Ce and Lu or their combination; B has octahedral coordination (Al); and C has tetrahedral coordination (also Al). The invention includes the case that the Al in B is substituted with Sc; up to two atoms of oxygen are substituted with fluorine and the same number of Ca atoms in A are substituted; B coordination is substituted with Mg atoms and the same number of oxygen atoms are substituted with fluorine atoms; B coordination is substituted with the combination of Mg/Si, Mg/Zr, Mg/Ti and/or Mg/Hf; B coordination is substituted with the combination of Li/Nb and/or Li/Ta; and A coordination is substituted with Ca atoms and the same number of B or C are substituted with silicon atoms.
