Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a battery having long life, large capacity, large size and tall height by placing a nonwoven fabric having a glass fiber diameter of 1∼10μm and a separator, and pouring silicic acid sol containing sulfuric acid in a battery to form a solid electrolyte by gelling.

CONSTITUTION: A nonwove fabric 6 comprising glass fibers having a fiber diameter of 1∼10μm or a nonwoven fabric 6 comprising glass fibers having a fiber diameter of 1∼10μm and synthetic fibers such as polyester fibers and a separator 7 are placed between a cathode plate 2 and an anode plate 3, and silicic acid sol containing sulfuric acid is poured into them to make it to gel. Since the diameter of the fibers is large, pore size in the nonwoven fabric is large, and the silicic acid sol easily passes through the nonwoven fabric 6. The sol enters a space 5 between the cathode plate 5 and the nonwoven fabric 6, and forms a solid electrolyte by gelling, and the whole cathode plate 2 is utilized. Thereby, a sealed lead-acid battery having long life, large capacity, large size and tall height can be obtained.
