PURPOSE: To prevent invasion of a vapor from a liquid cooling apparatus by a method wherein a duct is formed in a preceding process of the liquid cooling apparatus and a set of two mechanical dampers and a set of two rolls are provided in said duct in a mutually opposed manner against a steel strip.
CONSTITUTION: The duct 9 is formed in a preceding process of a liquid cooling apparatus and, against a steel strip 10 passing through the duct 9, a set of two mechanical dampers 3, 5 is provided in such a manner that they can be rotated and opened or closed as well as seal rolls 1 are provided to an upper part thereof. The seal rolls 1 are rotated at a speed coincided with a line speed in such a manner that a distance with the steel strip 10 is made as close as possible and, further, said mechanical dampers 3, 5 are held in a closed condition. By this arrangement of the rolls 1 and the dampers 3, 5, a vapor generated in the liquid cooling apparatus 6 is prevented from being invaded into an inner side 11 of the annealing furnace and, thereby, oxidation or the like of the steel strip 10 can be also prevented.
